The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
