The England midfielder Needs to Cut Out the Immature behavior to Earn a Key Place With Tuchel.
If Jude Bellingham aims to earn his place back into the English top team, it would be smart to eliminate the unnecessary reactions. His reaction upon realizing that the substitute board was about to come up following a night of inconsistency in Tirana was unacceptable.
"I’d rather not make more out of it but I hold to my words 'behaviour is key' and consideration for the players who substitute on," stated Tuchel. "Substitutions happen and you have to accept it being a professional."
Bellingham has to learn. It was unnecessary for a tantrum. The captain had recently scored to make England leading by two in a meaningless qualifier, there were six minutes left and the player, who had not played particularly well, received a caution for fouling Armando Broja. This could scarcely be called a debatable decision. Indeed it would have been unwise for the manager to keep Bellingham on the pitch because there was a chance Bellingham would be suspended of the opening game of the competition by getting a another booking.
Shifting Focus to Himself
Yet Bellingham drew all eyes toward himself. There was no disguising the 22-year-old’s frustration upon understanding that he was going to make way for another player. He threw his arms up and even though he shook Tuchel’s hand on his way to the sideline it was clear that Tuchel was not impressed.
This is the challenge facing Bellingham. He applauded Rashford for delivering the cross for the captain to score the team's second, but everything else was counterproductive. It's not like arguing was going to change Tuchel’s mind. The coach has repeatedly emphasized following squad protocols and the importance of showing proper conduct.
Facing Examination
He, not included in last month’s squad, has been under scrutiny since coming back to the team recently. Practically he was being assessed and he hasn't helped his case through his behavior to coming off the pitch as the national team wrapped up a flawless qualification run by seeing off a spirited effort from their opponents.
Tactics and Formation
It means opinions are divided on if the team operate most effectively including Bellingham. The performance was inconclusive. Some new ideas were tested by the coach in the beginning. He has provided the team organization and direction in recent months, using a defensive midfielder, a central midfielder, a No 10 and out-and-out wingers, but there was a different feel in this match. The young defender was given his first cap, the midfielder was in the starting lineup at this level and the positioning of the defender as a makeshift midfielder meant there was similar look to City's team that won three trophies.
A Game of Two Halves
Bellingham had ups and downs. He made a chance for Eberechi Eze in the latter period but often looked overly eager to shine. There were a lot of hurried and errant passes. A pointless clash with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. England's play was messy for much of the second half. An opportunity for Albania resulted from he lost the ball cheaply. His caution occurred when he was dispossessed to Broja and committed a foul on the attacker.
Squad Strength Shows
In the end the squad's strength proved crucial. The coach brought on Phil Foden, who appeared better suited to the position that Bellingham had played during the first half, and Saka. Eventually Saka whipped in a corner for Kane to open the scoring. It highlighted that corners and free-kicks will play a key role in the upcoming tournament.
Relationship Not Broken
However, Bellingham was the story. The brilliance of Rashford's cross for Kane’s header was somewhat overlooked in the ridiculousness of the Rogers substitution. When the match concluded, everyone was watching the midfielder. The coach approached behind him and guided the player towards the away supporters. Their connection remains intact. Tuchel hasn't decided to discard Bellingham yet. But if the coach is prepared to give him centre stage is not guaranteed.
