Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
