Martin Compston are set to reprise their characters in the acclaimed crime series

The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."

Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."

"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

Show History

The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
