The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her final two events in 2025 due to the illness she has been battling over the past 10 days.

Raducanu, aged 22 was scheduled to compete in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to recover prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.

Her upcoming training will involve her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have agreed to work together again next season.

Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring while playing the initial match with Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.

She again required a doctor's assessment at the recent Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.

Raducanu was also moving with clear difficulty in the final set in the match with Zhu due to a lower back issue that has troubled her during parts of the season.

Such performances signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the top 30 globally for the first time for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.

The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to Jessica Pegula in the third round in the Beijing tournament last month.

She secured 28 matches during 2025 and advanced to the semis in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami Open in March.

As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of a premier WTA event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament then falling in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.

She worked with Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role in time for the US Open.

The initial agreement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was until the end of the season but the collaboration persists, with planned training sessions in the coming months.

Raducanu told that a three-day test period with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.

She came very close to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati in August.

Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage before being beaten by 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
