One teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly accused of stealing the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The investigation heard how his parent got a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said property was not stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the alleged taken ashes generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest received testimony from school staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The court learned his parents said they did not receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his questioning he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
